Choosing the Best Appliances For Your Tiny Home

Living tiny has given many homeowners a lot of freedoms that traditional home owners simply do not have.  The freedom of living wherever you wish, less upkeep and expenses, and the reduced stress that normally comes with a traditional home, just to name a few.  With those freedoms come specific choices that you must make to live comfortably in your tiny home to assure your daily way of living is not interrupted. Some of these choices include what appliances to purchase when starting your tiny journey.  Today we will talk a little about the particular appliances you will need to live a happy tiny life.

Washer and Dryer Combo

Combination washer and dryers allow you to wash and dry your clothing in the same machine.  Kinda cool, right? Combination washer and dryers not only save space in your tiny home, but they also cut down on the time it takes to do your laundry so you can enjoy other things from your tiny life.

Even better, combination washer and dryer units do not require venting to the outside.  Although it takes longer to dry your clothing, not having to connect to a venting connection allows you to place your washer and dryer combination where you have the room instead of a static space that may cause congestion and less room.

A great washer and dryer combo that is very popular amongst tiny home owners is the EdgeStar CWD1550W, but there are many units to choose from.

Compact Dishwashers

Compact dishwashers range from portable counter units with sink connections, to larger 18” units that work more like a traditional dishwasher.  Why is a compact dishwasher a good choice in a tiny home?  Think about it, the traditional dishwasher measures 24” in width so a compact dishwasher measure 18” across gives you 6” more space in your tiny kitchen therefore saving much needed space!

One particular compact dishwasher you may want to take a look at is the Koldfront PDW60EB, but once again, there are many models to choose from.

Midsize and Mini-Refrigerators

Refrigerators are a necessity for every home.  However in a tiny house, standard sized refractors may not be the best option.  Midsized and Mini Refrigerators may be a better option.  These units range in size from 1.1 cubic feet to a little less than 14 cubic feet.

A popular refrigerator with tiny home owners is the Avanti with 7.4 cubic feet for less than $500 shipped.

Air Conditioners and Heaters

Options for climate control in a tiny home include ductless mini splits, window units, and portable A/C units.  Mini splits and window units offer more energy efficiency than portable

A/C units.  However, window units tend to be an eye sore but are more efficient, inexpensive, and can be installed by the owners. A mini split must be installed by a licensed HVAC contractor. Portable units offer more convenience when it comes to installation and use.

Although you must think of smaller sized appliances when living in a tiny home, there are many options to choose from as we have recommended in this post.  When deciding on what appliances you want to purchase, keep in mind how your tiny home is designed and choose what works best for you, the home owner.  Living tiny doesn’t have to be difficult when starting out, but there are many things to consider too assure your tiny life is enjoyable and convenient.

Until next time, keep on living tiny!
